STATEMENT
The Group of Socialists, Democrats and Greens of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, joins unanimously the international community in condemning with the strongest possible way the unprecedent and unprovoked aggressive military invasion started by Russia against Ukraine.
Since more than 24 hours the people of Ukraine have been living the worst expected scenario. The humanitarian cost and the human suffering will be disastrous, not only for Ukraine but for the whole continent.
The SOC Group asks for a fast, strong and consistent action in response to Russia’s armed attack and will fully support all options to suspend and exclude Russia from our Organisation.
War has never been the right response, and it will never be. We call President Putin to join common sense and unconditionally stop immediately these terrible attacks against a sovereign and democratic country. The Council of Europe must reply in unity against the madness of aggressive military invasion and do everything possible to support the right to live in peace for every human being in Ukraine and all over Europe.
