Co-rapporteur on Azerbaijan and member of the SOC Group Stefan Schennach from Austria, expressed his deep concerns on the unjustified detention of Mehman Huseynov in Azerbaijan. Following the new charges against him, the young blogger is on food strike since several days and his helath is worsening. Stefan Schennach had the possibility to meet the young blogger several times, and twice since his detention. According to him, Mehman is a political prisoner and should be immediately released without any conditions.
The two co-rapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, for the monitoring of Azerbaijan, Sir Roger Gale (United Kingdom, EC) and Stefan Schennach (Austria, SOC) made a common statement.
